White Wines

 

Pinot Grigio

Richer in flavor than its brethren from Italy, this white wine hints of melon and citrus flavors with a refreshing minerality in the finish. It pairs well with light dishes that are still on the "thick" side, like chicken in a rich white sauce.

 

Chardonnay

This grape is believed to have originated in Lebanon, but it thrives in the local Northern Michigan climate. The warm summer on Old Mission and cool spring and fall impart this unwooded Chardonnay with honey and citrus zest flavors. You’ll enjoy this white wine best with poultry or seafood, or even a light red meat dish.

 

Dry Riesling

Rich apple and white peach flavors course through this white wine along with a hint of wet stone. Full bodied, with a crisp lingering finish, this Dry Riesling may have come to prominence in Germany, but it has been perfected here on Old Mission Peninsula.

 

Late Harvest Riesling

The close kin our Dry Riesling, this white wine offers similar sweet blossom aromas and tropical fruit flavors. However, what sets it apart is a pleasing, overt sweetness that dances on the palette. This wine pairs very well with seafood and chocolate. It is also great on its own as a dessert wine.

 

Gewürztraminer

Pronounced ga-VERTZ-trah-MEE-ner, the name means spice grapes in German. This white wine holds true to that name with anise spice accents, rose petal aromas and Lychee fruit flavors. In order to release its bouquet and flavors, this sweeter wine is served slightly warmer than most whites at 50ºF.

 

Peninsula White

If you just can’t decide on which one of our white wines to choose, try them all! This blended white takes the best characteristics of our whites and melds them together in a truly unique light and fruity experience.

 

 

Red Wines

 

Cabernet Franc Rose’

Lighter in color, flavor and body than our other reds (because the grape skins are only allowed to marinate with the young wine juice for a very short period), this semi-sweet wine features notes of plum and black licorice. The tannin is soft and gentle, and the finish is smooth.

 

Cabernet Sauvignon

Made by our partner in California, a deep red hue and hints of black currant define this wine. Oaky and vanilla flavors are also present, thanks to the oak barrels the wine is aged in. You’ll appreciate this wine most when beef, lamb or goose accompanies it, especially when these dishes are cooked with herbs. It also is a great match for Brie, cheddar cheese and chocolate.

 

Peninsula Red

A blended wine that takes the best red features and magnifies those details to produce a unique and savory crimson liquid.
